I noticed her for the first time for the same reason why everybody else in the club noticed her: She wore ballet boots. And she not only wore them, she danced in them for the whole night. Well, not the whole night, obviously, there were tracks she liked and tracks she did not like. But even if she did not dance, she never sat down, even if she had the chance. Just like me, she had a habit of coming and leaving early. Usually, the DJ took a while to break out the good tracks, so she spend the first half an hour or so idling at the bar and sipping her first drink. Being early, there were always free stools, but as I said, she never sat down. I wasn’t quite sure, but it seemed to me she did it on purpose, just to show of.

You could almost, but not quite, say she wore her ballet boots like sneakers, but that wouldn’t do her justice. Noone, no matter how much training, will ever wear ballet boots like sneakers, because the ankle is a surprisingly important joint for a “normal” human gait. Similarly, you could not say she wore them effortlessly. As said before, the ankle is important for walking and even more so for dancing. Walking and dancing both took visibly more effort than normally. But you could definitely say she wore them naturally. As if the other girls around maxed out at normal high heels just because they were lazy bitches.

Except for her boots, which were knee high and regular black leather the first time I saw her, she was dressed rather plainly: A skirt, too short for a pencil skirt and too long for a mini skirt, also black and a blouse, black, too. As if she tried to avoid attention. In ballet boots...
