A lovely little story about a Princess in the modern world, choosing a rather different kind of dress-style for engagement. Rather than some fancy / luxurious modern dress, she's going with a Victorian-style ballgown, including all the different little layers and garments, making the entire outfit quite restrictive for her. Her mother, the Queen, thought not to be present during the engagement, also decides on some different kind of fashion to still be there for her daughter's engagement.

“Are you sure it is a good idea to wear this, Ma’am?” the maid queried. “It’s quite an extreme and, if I may say so, anachronistic outfit, by today’s standards.”

“Yes, I am sure that I want to wear it,” the princess responded. “It is an extreme outfit that will take time to put on, so let’s keep moving; I don’t want to be too late.”

“What about your status as the Fashion Princess? Aren’t you concerned that this will damage that status?” the maid asked as she hauled on the laces of the underbust corset around the princess’s waist.

“That has always been a label applied by the media – especially the paparazzi – and not by me,” the princess explained. “If they want to laud me as such, that is their choice.”

“But what will Her Majesty think? Won’t she object to something this unconventional?” the maid tried...
